Footprints in the heart 2023

Pennies for the Homeless presents the Diane dal Santo & Joseph Saavedra Footprints in the Heart Award to an individual and/or organization that has demonstrated outstanding dedication to addressing homelessness and support for the unhoused.

This year’s award goes to Julie Morgas Baca, Bernalillo County Manager, and the county for their ongoing support for the Tiny Home Village, developed to provide housing and programs for the homeless. The Village is beaming at full capacity, and continues to help address the challenge of homelessness in our community and give unhoused individuals hope for the future.

Bernalillo Couty has continued to provide the highest level of support for the Pennies for the Homeless High Tea and Fashion Show. Thanks to the generous support of donors and sponsors, the event proceeds continue to support many homeless service providers.

  • About the event

Once a year Pennies for the Homeless goes all out to organize one of the biggest charity event of the year, the High Tea and Fashion Show Extravaganza. This event highlights some of the nation’s hottest couture designers, such as: Lourdes Chavez, Kevan Hall, and Michael Costello .

It also provides our community the opportunity to not only help an extremely important cause but experience an exquisite display of glamorous designer collections while enjoying tasty savories and sweets from some of our city’s favorite restaurants. There is also the unique opportunity to be able to purchase or custom order the designer fashions at a trunk show immediately following the event. Through the donations of gracious sponsors and generous attendees, we are able to change the lives of many of those in need.

  • Sponsorship

We invite you to join us for a very special experience for the Pennies for the Homeless: 2023 High Tea and Fashion Show. The event showcases some of the best designs in the nation for all the see. The event benefits the Pennies for the Homeless organization, which is dedicated to helping connect unhoused neighbors to resources in our community.

The unique opportunity for sponsorship shows your support for the organization who works to better the lives of those in the community. The event continues to raise funds to help improve the quality of lives for the homeless around us and through community outreach and funding programs that provide food, shelter, and healthcare and hope for a better future.

Pennies for the Homeless is the brainchild of the late businessman Joseph Saavedra and the late District Court Judge, Diane dal Santo, who together started a Community Penny Drive with APS students collecting loose change to help the homeless. Pennies for the Homeless continues to educate the community about homelessness while raising money for local shelters, meal sites, daycare centers, and other homeless services with the message that every penny counts!

Homelessness is not seasonal, and millions of adults and children suffer on a daily basis, especially during this horrific pandemic. The annual event has raised an estimated half-million dollars for the Albuquerque Public Schools Title I homeless project and dozens of other local homeless service providers. We need your help to help continue the legacy of Joseph Saavedra and Pennies for the homeless – become a sponsor, today!
